735. I Can’t Do the Good Work Saying Yes To Everything
For some, saying no feels like closing a door forever. For others, it is the only way to protect the work that matters. Lesley is sharing why she turned down an opportunity that would have made good money, what she has learned about brands that drop the people who talk about them, and how a win can be as simple as not feeling bad about it. Maybe there is a yes you have been giving away that you should be saying no to.

Get ready for some wins. Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.
Lesley Logan 0:48
Welcome, Be It babe, to the Fuck Yeah Friday episode that has no script at the beginning. I just wing it every time, and I wung it so poorly. You'll probably hear a blooper in this episode because I. Oh my god! Normally, don't record the FYFs on Tuesday afternoons because normally that's when Brad and I would record a recap. So I think my brain is like, "Oh, it's Tuesday. You're in the pod room. You must be recording a recap without your husband. It's Friday, and we take some time to just be a human being. Don't have to be learning. We can be living. We can be celebrating what we did do together, and you know I got to get a little thing off my chest with you. Hopefully, you're in your car nodding along and understand my pain. Then I share one of your wins, and then you get to send. You get to be inspired by someone's win. You send it in to me.
Lesley Logan 1:35
So, okay, here's the deal. There's this weird thing that's going on. So, for those who have been on Instagram for a long time, meaning of like being on Instagram, like you didn't have to have a ton of followers, but like everybody wanted to send you a pair of leggings and then give you 10% off as your discount, but also you would sell the leggings and then you would get affiliate money, right? And so years ago, was everyone and their mom was literally in my DMs trying to get me to wear their fucking leggings. Send me a free pair, and then I just have to post, and I get to have an affiliate link and make three cents, right? So that was annoying. Fast forward to okay. Now I actually want to be intentional about the companies I collab with. I want to make sure it's things that we want to tell you about. So being intentional about doing my research, trying the product, reaching out, being an affiliate for them, and then for them to go, you actually haven't sold enough of the product, so we're going to cancel your affiliation with us. So by not selling enough of the product, they wanted 20 sales in a month. You guys, someone have to have a million followers for that because most people know it takes seven to 10 hours of somebody understanding your brand before they buy something from you. So seven to 17 touch points at the least for some purchase. And so I was so frustrated because it has been 30 days. What'd you think I was going to talk about your stuff all day long every single day? Like this is QVC? No. And so it was just so annoying, and it gave me such a bad taste with the brand because that's just you know I would never do with my affiliates. If you want to be an affiliate of ours, we have it for our flashcards and we have it for Agency, and then we have referral bonuses for eLevate and for the retreat. And if you want to be, we don't go. You have to have minimum sales to get a thing. No, what I have seen is if you do really, really well, you might get better payouts. But to just completely drop the people who've been talking about you because they didn't do a good enough job? Weird. I just think it's weird. I think it's gross. It's not. It's and then all these companies like women supporting women. Fuck you. No, you're not. Because you would just allow me to be an.
Lesley Logan 3:37
If you saw me using my affiliate just to buy stuff at discount, okay, that is one thing, but to just feel you can keep talking about we're not going to pay you because you didn't. I don't know something about it just really irks me because wait, that's not that's not how things go. And you know, there's been other companies have taken really really good care of me, really really amazing, and then they got rid of their affiliate program. Very different thing, very very different thing, and so this is not me bitching about that stuff. It's just like the ones you. I don't know. I just think why can't I just tell people about the product that I love and then maybe one a month come to you? Maybe that's it, right? Maybe get one a month. Maybe actually my people already buy your stuff and they're like, oh, Les likes to do it. I'll keep buying more, but you'll never know, right? It's just weird. I don't know. Why can't we just all get along? Why can't we all support each other? That's all. That's what this complaint is about.
Lesley Logan 4:25
All right. So my win, my win because I think I've like hit that pinata to death. So I had an invitation to do something that, to be honest, would have actually been fine and aligned with the business, and we would have made it work, and probably would have made some good money on it. And I said no because it was going to affect my well-being and my commitments to myself, and my sleep, and my routines. And I have so many friends who work for themselves who will just say yes to every speaking gig, and they will just work from every hotel, and they just wear this badge of busy. And I cannot do that. And it's really interesting because, like, there is this fear that can come up. Oh my god! If I tell people I'm going to say no to things, then people will stop asking me. And I'm sure that's true. I guess it could happen. But I also really do believe that this is not advice for you if you're brand new at the thing you're doing, okay? But I've been doing this for a long time, a long time. I've been doing this a long time, and I also did so much travel, and then no travel because of pandemic, and then a little bit travel, and then so much travel, and I love it, and I would love to go everywhere all of the time. I'd love to say yes, and the truth is, is that I can't do the good work that I'm doing and say yes to every single thing. So I said no to this thing. I said I can't do it this time, but please keep me in mind for the rest, for other things. You know, it's not a never. It's just not a today, and send them on with some other support. And then I didn't feel bad about it, and I also think that that's a win. Like, whoa, wow, what, what? I'm I got rid of some level of insecurity that was vibrating in my brain. Got rid of that somewhere along the way, and I don't know when, but when I did this, I didn't buzz in. Oh my God, you're gonna invite again? Do you want to be invited? Nope, not not insecure at all. So that's my win. That's my win. I said no, I didn't feel bad about it. So see how easy a win can be?
Lesley Logan 6:25
Now let's do a win of yours. You can send your wins in to beitpod.com/questions. Okay, same link for everything. Questions, topics. The questions we answer on YouTube, but the topics we do podcast episodes on or find guests. You can send guest requests in. If you send me Michelle Obama one more time, I love her. Can't wait. Would love for her to be. Cannot wait to be of earn the right to interview her. But maybe someone a little more attainable. Yeah. Okay. I love you guys so much. All right. So this is from @sandaburkemovement, "Set up my new reformer!!!" Oh my god, your new Reformer is stunning on you, and it's been so fun to watch your practice just evolve and change, and you know, the strength that you have, and I just am so glad that you're in my life, that I've been your elevated life, and we get to keep doing this Pilates thing together.
Lesley Logan 7:09
And then this one is from @pilates_muscles, "Connected deeper to my breath, and made my long legs feel feather light and teaser." Oh wow! Breath is so good. The breath is so good. Ah, I love these wins. Thanks for sending them in, ladies. You are amazing. Keep them coming because you'll hear them in the future, right? You won't hear them a week later when you remember the win. You're going to hear it a month or three later and go, "Oh my God, I did that. That's right. I forgot about that. Right?
Lesley Logan 7:37
All right. Here is your mantra: Relaxation is my natural state. Relaxation is my natural state. Relaxation is your natural state, babe. Go get it. Go Be It Till You See It.
