Finding Home and Community in Los Angeles
Los Angeles was a place Brad and I called home for over 14 years. Between the two of us we lived in dozens of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods. For years we would hike every full moon in the Pacific Palisades. Because its so big its easy to think that LA isn’t where you experience community.
But, for Brad and I we had deep community connections. Friends, co-workers, clients, friends of friends that helped us and we helped them to grow year after year.
When we moved to Las Vegas we still felt LA was home. When people ask “where are you from?” I know they mean where did you grow up. But, I prefer to say Los Angeles to “a small town in Northern California.” Not because I don’t want to talk about where I grew up as a kid. Because, LA is where I truly feel I came into my own.
OPC Community Supports LA Fire Victims
As 2025 started watching the many neighborhoods we called home on fire was heart breaking. And Brad and I wondered how could we help. When things happen that are so big sometimes it can feel like its impossible. Or the help you can do is a drop in the bucket.
But, we knew the power of community! Especially the OPC (onlinepilatesclasses.com) community!
The OPC team researched charities to find one that our efforts could make the biggest difference. We fell in love with One Voice LA. An over 40 year charity that has been serving those who work in LA.
With 5 days of organization we had hundreds of people share the event. Over 118 donors from all over the world. We raised over $7400!
100% of all the money raised will be given to those who lost their jobs due to the homes they worked at burning down.
Uniting for LA: OPC’s Community Movement for Fire Relief
We celebrated the money raised with a 30 min all levels Mat Pilates class and q&a session on Jan 19th 2025. Over 70 people joined in on the movement and community session.
While we know that those affected by the fires will need support for a long time. It was amazing to be able to gather people together who wanted to help and pull all our monies together to support a charity who can get the money, all of it, to those who need it.
Thank you to everyone who shared and moved with us. If you would like to help those in need you can still donate to opc.me/la.
