I get this question a lot. My Short answer: I work for myself and don’t have children. But that doesn’t really help anyone. And it does dismiss the work I have done to find a balance. So I wanted to share a few things that worked for me. And!!! This answer will change over time because my life and body will.
Sooo if your system doesn’t work any more I hope some of this gives you some ideas.
1) Pilates is my main movement ish. It’s in balance with my weight training. I find if I do less Pilates I feel a little off in my lifts. I have 2 longer sessions a week that I do from home but online so a teacher can provide feedback. 2-3 15-30 min sessions. These are great for getting the “homework” in. And while I love them in the morning I can fit them in anywhere.
2) weights 4x a week: these I do leave my home for, and the training is out sourced. I have an epic trainer whose designs everything so I just have to show up and do it.
3) yoga 2x a week: I do these live on a zoom class- again- outsourced.
4) zone 2 once a week
I have a day that is absolute rest
And sleep is priority over moving
Fueling properly is huge for this balance and hard for me. I’m adhd and have to stay on top of it. Sooo truthfully I have work to here and am close to outsourcing.
Tips for finding your balance:
1) listen to your body!!!
2) find metrics that help you so you’re not just going off vibes
3) try to find ways to do majority or half at home. I don’t leave my house for Pilates or yoga so it’s easy for me to do them often.
4) ditch the all or nothing mentality
5) ditch waiting for motivation focus on creating habits so you show up for you!!
6) get experts to help! Even if you can’t pay yet find people online who have free options! I’ve got a few classes on YT if you can’t commit to @opc.pilates for example.
7) make sure household members understand your goals! Ask them to assist with things so you can have 5, 15 or more minutes to move your body the way you like.
8) listen to my habits series.
9) find what works for you. This works for me. You can do it completely differently and it’s amazing. The internet likes to make you think more is better…
